Who we are

Safe and Equal is the peak body for specialist family violence services that provide support to victim survivors in Victoria. Our vision is a world beyond family and gender-based violence, where women, children and all people from marginalised communities are safe, thriving and respected.  

We provide specialist expertise across primary prevention, early intervention, response and recovery approaches and the inter-connections between them.

Safe and Equal works with practitioners and leaders to bring grassroots issues into the public policy arena. We coordinate and participate in advocacy to reform policy, improve the service system, and embed practice development and innovation across the family violence sector.

PreventX: Messaging for a Movement

PreventX is the national conference for those who want to create change and prevent family and gender-based violence.

In 2024, the conference will look at one of the fundamentals of primary prevention – how we craft and deliver messages that shift hearts and minds to deliver long-term and sustainable social change to prevent family and gender-based violence.

We deliver a range of training courses to further your knowledge in preventing and responding to family violence. We also run events and leadership programs to help you connect with others in the sector and build your career.

Small steps: Bystander action for equality

This new 4-hour bystander action course builds participants’ knowledge and skills to be active bystanders and safely and effectively challenge the harmful attitudes that drive violence against women in their personal and professional lives. Explore simple and effective steps you can take to increase your confidence and speak up against sexism.

CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence

This three-hour virtual interactive training provides foundational knowledge in understanding family violence and responding to disclosures of family violence. It prepares participants to recognise indicators of family violence, ask questions and provide a safe, simple and sensitive response to a disclosure from an adult victim survivor experiencing family violence.

Case Notes, Family Violence and the Law

With the rapidly-changing family violence sector and new legislation, it’s never been a better time to learn about case notes or to have a refresher. In this full-day training, you will learn best practices for the structure, style and language of case notes, and develop your knowledge about how to respond to subpoenas, appearing as a witness in court, privacy and legal issues.
